The former Brown’s garage site application by Lincolnshire Co-operative Society to build a retail outlet January 20th 2010
This application was discussed at Keep Louth Special meetings and by email. There were a variety of opinions for and against, such as concern over the possibility of traffic hazards, the impact on town centre shops, and, on the positive side, the fact that LCS intended to source local products where possible. One of the major concerns was that this could be a stalking horse for a much larger retail outlet later, given the change of use to A1 and the possibility that the site and the adjoining units could eventually be purchased by one of the major national retailers.
It was decided that KLS would not be opposed in principle to the application, although individuals, as ever, were free to send in letters of objection. A letter was sent to the ELDC Planning Dept by KLS summarizing our position and noting our fears over possible future developments.
LCS have said that they are keen to talk to KLS, and have indicated that they are sympathetic to our views.
