Tesco wins Sheringham fight
October 2010
Tesco has won its 14-year long campaign to build a store in the picturesque Norfolk town of Sheringham. Approval squeaked through development committee of North Norfolk District Council on the chairman’s casting vote. The committee rejected an alternative application which would have seen a small Waitrose built on land owned by campaigner Clive Hayward-Smith. Most food shops in Sheringham are independents, but some local people claim they have to shop at supermarkets outside the town.
